Author Interview

Q You write Military Romantic Suspense, and though it seems like the Navy SEAL romance books are the most popular, even Black Operations. So why did you choose Special Forces?

A My husband is active Army and a veteran. The top tier of the Navy is the SEAL Teams. The top tier of the Army is the Special Forces.
I think the SF deserves just as much recognition as the SEALs…they are like the Ghostwalkers of the Army.
Plus- I don’t know jack about swimming.

Q You based your military romance series on a Special Forces team – Task Force Scorpion. Why did you also decide to put them in a small town setting?

A Just because you come from a small town, doesn’t mean you can’t be hard core. I grew up in a small town. The men there can be bad boy alpha males just as easily as the men from big cities ☺

Plus, I grew up reading small town romance. I think readers love the feeling of belonging to a community, getting to know all the quirky folks who live there and falling in love with not only the hero but also their friends and family.

Q You're books are often about second chances – big secrets. Why?

A Who doesn't root for a hero dying for a second chance? Yes, he probably screwed up big time in the past, but how much sweeter is the love between the hero and heroine when they show forgiveness?

As far as big secrets – they're just fun. Secret babies, corrupt politicians, love triangles…

Believe me – it ALL happens in a small town romance and real life.

I'm on page 150 and I'm struggling to read any further. In the second chapter alone, the heroine has gone from weak and spineless to someone who has a backbone and isn't afraid to make the tough decisions and back again. If it's vulnerability the author is attempting to demonstrate, she didn't do a really good job.
The emotions and actions the characters display do not ring true to human actions and/or reactions.

The stuff this character has gone through in the second chapter of this book is just too much; she's had a hell if a long night. First, her sadistic ex and his flavor of the week shows up at her bar just so he can stronghold her into doing what he wants by threatening to kill her mother. She's them involved in breaking up a fight in her bar that her grandfather instigated, found out her mother had betrayed her with said ex, her first ex (hero) shows up, and a dirty cop attacks her and beats the crap out of her in her own home until the hero steps in to save her. Oh, I forgot to mention that the deity cop revealed that he killed her father at the order of her psychopathic ex (the second one). Too much! I'm glad this one is free 'cause I'm afraid that it's about to go to archives.

The book started off great with a mission gone wrong but to tie these two events together with a solid ending is a challenge I doubt this book will accomplish. I have a feeling that the ending is going to be flat. Going to try best to finish it up. If I do and my opinion changes, I'll update my review. I seriously doubt that it will.

Redemption River Men of Mercy Book 1 edition by Lindsay Cross Romance eBooks Reviews

Hunter James left Mercy, Mississippi with a broken heart. To get away from the woman who betrayed him, he joined the army and became part of an elite task force, assigned to do the missions that needed to be done in the shadows. When a mission goes sideways, and he is injured and loses one of his team, he is sent home to convalesce. But, along with his R&R, he’s assigned a mission find out who in Mercy is planning to supply arms to the terrorist he and his team has been tracking. In order to do so, though, he must reconnect with Evangeline Videl, the woman he left home to get away from. She is involved in the gun running, and his job is to get close to her to bring the ring down. The problems begin as soon as he sees her. He realizes that he still loves her. For her part, she thought he’d run away and deserted her, so she took up with the man who became Mercy’s mayor, only to discover that he had a dark, brutal side, and now he is threatening to destroy her family if she doesn’t do what she wants.
Hunter and Evangeline are forced to put aside their anger at each other and seek redemption. It’s the only they and their loved ones can survive.
Redemption River by Lindsay Cross is an interesting book. While some of the military action strains credibility, the Mississippi setting is extremely well done. Some of the action scenes get started well, and then are brought to abrupt conclusion, with more detail devoted to the physical encounters between Hunter and Evangeline.
This first book in the Men of Mercy series shows promise, and one can only hope that they will improve with each successive book. This one, though, I can only give three stars.
After reading the first chapter I told myself it was going to be an excellent read. But for me it fell short and became unbelievable as a super elite government team who specialize in international missions gets a stateside mission to take down a suspected arms dealer. This is more of an FBI operation story since it is US based. So....anyway, this highly trained group goes to Mercy, MIssissippi to infiltrate a secret group including an ex girlfriend of one of the men. Hunter James and his brother Ranger are to find any information they can about people in their home town who are working for the suspected arms dealer. Eve Videl, her mother Maxine and Eve's grandfather CW are part of this revolutionary group, whose original goals were to earn money for community projects that need financial help. Their town's current mayor is a bad guy by the name of Marcus Carvant who is a total dirt bag. The basic story is an entertaining read, but for me not believable in the least. To many sex scenes when they are not needed seem to be thrown in places and situations wherever the writer decides to throw them.
WOW! Action packed, filled with mystery adventure and a great bunch of special, highly skilled military men. These men are very fit, trained for precision like a well oiled machine. The one problem, they're trained to block emotion to keep a razor sharp focus on their job. How they turn it off in personal relationships, as you read this story, you realize, it's not easy, a emotions slow reaction in operations and a stumbling block in their personal life. These men and women are doing this to keep us safe....God Bless Them! I read these stories, and know it's fiction, but there is truths woven in, and I see what it cost them and their families at time...so I pray, not just for the military men & women, but their families too, as families are giving their loved ones to fight for us. That aside, this author knows how to write, and write that once you get started you want to keep going. Love It! The love story, while ending sweet, is anything but easy going, is well done too. I could easily connect with the character, and learned to like some I wasn't sure about, as things are more then what meets the eye....guess one could say, "don't judge a book by it's cover".
Hopefully I'll be able to read more of Ms Cross's work.
